Makesmith Workshop at Conner Prairie: Bringing the “home ec and shop class” experience back to kids of all ages

A proud partner of Conner Prairie, The Hagerman Group was thrilled to be part of the Jan. 11 ribbon cutting ceremony for an exciting new exhibit at the museum’s Welcome Center.  The permanent, 500-square-foot Makesmith Workshop allows people of all ages and skills to create and craft like never before. Whether it’s practicing woodworking techniques with a hammer and saw or learning the basics of sewing using a needle and thread, the Makesmith Workshop offers visitors hands-on experiences that get back to the fundamentals of creating.

The Hagerman Group is proud to have been part of a project that emphasizes the importance of making things. “The construction industry is always looking to bolster workforce development,” said Chairman Jeff Hagerman. “Hagerman is most excited about this project because it gets people excited about creating and building.”

A plywood wall surrounding the space will feature the creations made at the Makesmith Workshop. Themes will change periodically, with new crafts, tools, and activities that provide opportunities to work with textiles, wood, metal, pottery and more. The inaugural theme is textiles, so escape the cold weather this weekend and weave up some fun at Conner Prairie.
