Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana Fort Wayne, Indiana
Built by Hagerman Inc., the $27 million academy combines police, fire, emergency medical, and homeland security training in one facility, bringing about an efficient emergency response system.
Made up of six different “pods” in one large structure, the 132,000-square-foot building contains a firing range, wet lab, mat room, fire trucks apparatus bay, simunition room (with movable panels for various training situations), driving simulation rooms, homeland security planning room, classrooms, offices, gym, and auditorium.
Noted on its website as the “greenest building in Northeast Indiana”, the facility will save 25% in utilities due to various energy-conserving components. The main “green” factor was a waste management plan that successfully diverted 70% of construction waste from the landfill.
